                报告题目: Big Data Analytics: from Hardware to Application





                Big Data Analytics is about efficiently extracting knowledge from data. It has a wide range of applications in exploratory analysis applications. In this seminar, I will introduce a multi-layer big data processing and analytical architecture at first.Then I will briefly summarize the research works have done in my group.Last, I will present a recent research work in this area, namely, top-kinsights extraction, which published in SIGMOD’2017.

                The background of top-k insight extraction problem is given below.

                OLAP tools have been extensively used by enterprises to make better and faster decisions.Nevertheless, they require users to specify group-by attributes and know precisely what theyare looking for. Our top-k insights extraction problem takes the first attempt towards automatically extracting top-k insights from multi-dimensional data from data warehouses.

                This is useful not only for non-expert users, but also reduces the manual effort of data analysts.


                Dr. Bo Tang is currently an assistant professor in Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). He received the PhD degree in computer science from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2017. He was an visiting researcher at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) and Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA), respectively. He has been selected to participate in the 7th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF) in Heidelberg, Germany. His main research interests are in the area of multidimensional data management. His research works published on top-tier conferences and journals (e.g., SIGMOD, PVLDB, SIGIR, ICDE, TKDE, etc.).
